Announcement July 8, 2015

Open Doors Group (ODG) is closing its doors after six successful years. Launched in 2009 to bid on a Gates Next Generation Grant, ODG became the parent of the Community College Consortium for Open Educational Resources (CCCOER) and the very successful College Open Textbooks (COT) program. In 2011, ODG moved CCCOER to the Open Education Consortium. In 2014, COT was spun off as a separate entity named COT Education.

In the second half of 2014, ODG focused on the leadership crisis in higher education with an outstanding training and mentoring program called Accelerated Career PATHS for higher education. PATHS attracted 55 educators from Canada and the United States and provided ODG and its partners with operating funds. In early 2015, ODG created a self-study version of the Rapid Book Publishing for Educators course that had 800 participants in its 2013 MOOC format.

To move ahead with these programs, ODG would need investment capital in the form of grants or corporate sponsorships. The all-volunteer staff is unable to marshal the resources to seek out this capital. So the open doors are now closing.

A huge thank-you to all of the current and past volunteers. We also offer warm thanks to our outstanding parent organization Silicon Valley Education Foundation and to SoftChalk, the best partner in the world. We also thank these alliance partners: Bridgepoint Education, ISKME, the League for Innovation, Link-Systems International, MentorCloud, and NovoEd.
